Roofing calculators
Tools that work from measurements you can check, with every formula shown. None of them guesses at a price for you.
Roof pitch calculator
Convert rise and run, an angle or a percent slope into pitch (X/12), degrees and percent. Get the roof-area multiplier that turns a footprint into sloped roof area, and the hip and valley factor.

Before you start
- Roof footprint. The area the roof covers seen from above, including the overhangs. It isn't your home's living area: a two-story house has roughly half as much footprint as floor area.
- Pitch. Written as rise per 12 inches of run, like 6/12. The pitch calculator explains how to measure it safely from inside the attic.
All results are informational and are not bids. Contractors price their own jobs, and site conditions can change the scope. How we decide when a price range is good enough to publish is on the methodology page.
